Cape Town City Down Kaizer Chiefs 2-0
Kaizer Chiefs have logged a third defeat in their current DStv Premiership campaign after losing 2-0 to Cape Town City FC on Tuesday night, 23 August.
Fans at DHL Stadium watched as host team City opened the scoreboard in the fifth minute when midfielder Darwin Gonzalez struck the back post with an impressive close-range shot.
By the second-half, an energised Amakhosi were desperate to score an equaliser. Alas for them, Eric Tinkler’s men were strong on the defence. This allowed defender Nathan Fasika to intercept a cross from Khanyisa Mayo and head it into the box in the 62nd minute.
By the match’s completion, City had beaten Chiefs 2-0 and had gained three points. They now stand in 12th place on the Premier Soccer League rankings with five points.
Although Chiefs occupy a slightly higher placement (10th place with six points), it certainly goes to show just how far they have fallen this season and how much work they still need to do in order to get back on top.
